Who needs the ambulance?

Here is the activity we did with James on Who can help me? Day.

You can show people at home what you know.

Who can help me? Day was a lot of fun. We made emergency shelters with the scouts. I M G 1039

We learnt about earthquake safety and got a bag of treats from Civil Defence. I M G 1061

We looked at the tools a police man uses when he is on patrol. I M G 1069

The lifeguards talked about what they do and showed us their equipment. I M G 1086

The men from the air force taught us about search and rescue and showed us how they do things. I M G 1101

We got to walk through an ambulance and saw how to carry an injured person on a stretcher. I M G 1108

The fire fighters showed us their equipment and we got to climb in the fire truck and use the sirens! I M G 1122

James taught us some first aid. We know that if someone has a broken bone we don't move them. We know to apply pressure if we get a nasty cut. We also learnt how to check for breathing. I M G 1136

We learnt to use bandages to help a person who is bleeding badly.

Today James from the Black Sticks came and taught us hockey skills. I M G 0836

We learnt to dribble and trap a ball with our hockey stick. I M G 0841

We played some fun games that helped us practice the skills.

Then we used a hockey stick and a smaller ball. If it hit the target we yelled "SNAG!" I M G 1005

Todd taught us how to chip a ball to a target. I M G 1004

The Fling-its were kind of like sling shots. The ball went really high! I M G 1015

We learnt to putt. It was tricky to get the ball in the hole. I M G 1025

Chipping through the hoop was quite hard.

We learnt about how to spot a rip and what to do if we feel like we have been caught in one. I M G 0917
